The Leigh group is housed in the Sir Robert Robinson Laboratory, a custom-designed state-of-the-art facility for advanced organic synthesis in the 21st century on the 4th Floor of the Chemistry Building (see PLAN). The lab consists of 30 x 2m fumehoods in the main lab, three adjacent instrument rooms with a further 5 fumehoods, offices with dedicated deskspace and PC's—with full internet, database and electronic journal access—for each researcher, seminar room and kitchen/casual seating area, 600 MHz NMR spectrometer with cryoprobe, two benchtop mass spectrometers, two microwave synthesizers, two automatic chromatography instruments, HPLCs, photochemical reactor, size-exclusion chromatography, solvent purification system, etc.
The University of Manchester has outstanding facilities to support organic chemistry, including NMR spectroscopy at 800, 600, 500, 400 and 300 MHz and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography equipment.
